Busy Week

Although the boys have been ill all week, we've been able to have some fun things happen too.

We put our awesome space saver highchairs up this week. The chairs attach to our dining room chairs.  Both Magnus and Ragnar love sitting at the table with us as we eat.  The highchairs have made mealtimes MUCH more enjoyable for everyone.  Mama and Papa are able to eat a meal without having to hold/bounce a baby and Magnus and Ragnar are able to see what is going on and participate.  They look like such big boys in their highchairs!

One day this week we went with Auntie Dani and Candice to the outlet mall.  It was a beautiful, sunny day and the fresh air was perfect for Magnus & Ragnar.  We also had a delicious dim sum lunch.

Illness

It was inevitable that as soon as we started taking Magnus and Ragnar out in public that they would become ill.  They both had fevers that started last Friday.  We had assumed that it was from the immunizations they received the prior day, but the fever lasted.  It was then accompanied by congestion, runny nose, cough, sneezing and overall fussiness.  Ragnar has also had an upset stomach in the past couple of days.  It's hard to see them not feeling well and there is very little we can do to help them.  They have a humidifier in their room (have since birth); we have given them the occasional Tylenol, lots of fluids, lots of rest, and lots of cuddles.  Magnus has also been put back in his bouncy seat for sleep at night.  Poor babies! But, through it all they still have been little troopers.

Diapers

Yup.  Diapers.  We use a lot.  How many? Since we left the hospital, we have used 1,192 Newborn diapers and 289 Size 1 diapers.  The diaper pail is full and then emptied approximately every 2 days, but occasionally it is daily.

Family Photo Shoot

Last weekend our dear family friend Jennine stopped by to take some family photos of us and some photos of Nate with Magnus & Ragnar. (since he is our primary photographer and isn't in many photos) I love how they turned out!  Here are a few of my favorites from the photo shoot.

Church

Today I decided to take Magnus and Ragnar with us to church.  Prior to today they had been staying at home with Nate while I attended.  I dressed them in their adorable button-down shirts, pants, socks and even shoes!  Dani and I then left a bit early with them and drove around until they fell asleep.  Of course, when Magnus was taken out of the car and the cold air hit him, he woke up.  Once inside the chapel Magnus fell back asleep and Ragnar continued sleeping.  A few congregation members stopped by to see the boys and then the meeting started.  Ragnar woke up about 20 minutes into the meeting, and I took him out of his car seat.  He quickly fell back to sleep.  Magnus woke up 15 minutes later, so I handed Ragnar to Dani and quieted Magnus.  A funny comment came from the 3-year-old boy sitting behind us.  When I picked Mangus' car seat up off of the floor and put it on the bench to get him out the little guy said "They have two babies!  How do they have two babies?"  At the end of the meeting a few more people stopped by to see the boys as I was buckling them into their seats.  Overall, it went really well.  I think that I will try to stay for Sunday school the next time Dani is in town.

EMOMS

We belong to our local moms of multiples club, EMOMS.  Every spring and fall they have a large garage sale.  As members we have the option to sell at and get in an hour earlier than the public to shop.  Nate went to the fall sale by himself in October as I was on modified bed rest and picked up some great items for us.  I was disappointed that I couldn’t go but eagerly looked forward to the spring sale.  In fact, I booked our babysitter in October for the March sale!  (Auntie Dani)

We woke up early on Saturday, fed the babies and headed off to the sale.  It was a rainy spring day, and we were both hoping that getting up early and standing out in the rain would be worth our while.  We lined up in the members line and there were only 20 people ahead of us.  At 9:00AM they opened the doors and we headed in with our list and laundry basket to hold all of our stuff.

Our game plan was to split up and look for our big items first: a hiking backpack and exersaucer.  I found the exact backpack (matches the backpack we bought from Nate’s co-worker) we wanted right away for only $30!  I then headed off to the carrier section to look for an ERGO or BECO carrier.  Unfortunately, there weren’t any there only a LOT of baby bjorns.  Nate and I met up and he had found a great exersaucer for $18!  We dropped off the big items in the holding area and began looking through the books, crib items and clothing.  After about 45 minutes we were done shopping and got through the checkout quickly.  We were able to find most of the items on our list and other that we hadn’t even thought of!

Here are all of the items we purchased:
  • Kelty backpack carrier
  • Exersaucer
  • 2 breathable crib bumpers
  • 2 crib mobiles w/sounds and light show
  • 2 mirrors for the car
  • 3 board books, 4 hard back books, 1 soft touch n’ feel book
  • Stuffed octopus stroller toy
  • 2 pairs of Robeez soft sole shoes
  • 3 HALO wearable blankets
  • 2 denim overalls
  • Swim trunks
  • 4 pairs of pants
  • 5 sleep n’ play outfits
  • 2 nightgowns

When we got home Ragnar was peacefully sleeping and Magnus was singing with Auntie.  I was very happy with the sale and I’m excited to sell some of our baby items at the next sale in October.  Nate or I will also plan on volunteering to work at the sale so that we have the option of shopping even earlier, on the Friday night before the sale.

2 Month Well Check

Magnus & Ragnar had their 2-month-old well baby checkup today with their pediatrician.  She is happy with their growth and doesn't have concerns with either of them.  She gave me some suggestions for healthy sleep habits, calmed my fears about SIDS and suggested products to help with Magnus' dry skin.  She looked up Magnus' & Ragnar's hip ultrasounds and they were normal.  Now that they are 8 weeks old, she said we can start taking them out in the public, but to still try to avoid places where there will be sick people.  I'm on the fence about taking them to church prior to their blessing... but we'll see.  The boys both received their 1st rotavirus vaccine (oral) and 1st Diphtheria/Tetanus/Pertussis vaccine.  Ragnar liked the oral med (it's in sugar water) and Magnus really disliked it and kept spitting it out.  They both cried with the shot but were calmed quickly and easily after it was over.  I made an appointment to get their other 2 vaccines next week and also set up their 4-month checkup for May.  Without further ado, their stats & pics:

2 Months Old

Tomorrow marks the boys' 2-month birthday.  I can't believe they are 2 months old!  They are growing and changing so much each day.  Here are a few observations about the boys at 2 months along with some great photos Nate took.

Magnus:
  • Wears size 1 diaper
  • Is between sizes- he wears some newborn size clothing and is starting to fit into 0-3 M clothing
  • Losing his baby hair on top of his head
  • Loves bath time and bubble baths in particular
  • Loves the light in the bathroom (stares at it during bath time and is calmed by it when fussy)
  • Stuffy nose at bedtime and sleeps in his bouncy seat (to be at an upright angle) most nights
  • Champion nurser
  • Enjoys looking at his reflection

Ragnar:
  • Wears size Newborn diapers
  • Wears 0-3 M clothing
  • Car seat harness moved to the next slot (he’s getting taller!)
  • Eyes have become more of a light slate blue
  • Loves the sound of water and likes to put his ears underwater during bath time
  • Has very little patience when hungry
  • Rolls over from tummy to back during tummy time
  • Scoots around when on his back by pushing with his feet
  • Good at grabbing and holding: toys, mama’s hair, papa’s chest hair

Both
  • Social smiling, giggles and coos- responding when seeing Mama or Papa
  • Love car rides
  • Very cuddly
  • Look more like babies/newborns and less like preemies
  • Starting to notice each other (especially when one baby is being held and the other is watching and wants to be held too)
