Low Tide

We went to low tide at Alki beach in Seattle on Saturday with the boys.  It was a typical Seattle spring/summer day with cloudy skies and drizzle.  Nate had never been to Alki, so it was all new to him.  We saw many tidal pools, but not a great variety of sea life- mostly anemones and crab shells.  Both Magnus and Ragnar seemed to enjoy the fresh air and the sea sounds.  It was a lovely day, despite the rain.

Necklaces

We've had a few people ask about the necklaces the boys wear.

They wear Baltic amber teething necklaces.  These have become popular in the USA recently and have been used for years in Europe and Asia.  The idea is that amber is a natural analgesic and when worn on the skin, it releases healing oils (succinic acid- an amino acid) that helps babies and young children to stay calm and more relaxed throughout teething. Amber necklaces are a great natural remedy and can eliminate the need for over-the-counter drugs.

Nate and I figured that we'd give it a shot and see if it helps our boys as they teethe.  If nothing else, they are handsome necklaces and they couldn't hurt and hopefully it will help.

5 Months

Wow!  5 months ago, our amazing, precious, perfect little boys were born.  Where does the time go?  They are changing so much each day and learning very quickly. 

Magnus:

• Size 1/2 diapers
• 0-3 M pants, 3-6 M sleepers, 3-6 & 6 M onesies
• Eyelashes are longer and curly now
• Notices babies in pictures
• Gnaws on his hands during the day
• Has decided he is done with the pacifier
• Is very close to rolling over from tummy to back & back to tummy
• Reaches and grabs for toys and brings them to his mouth with accuracy
• Talks all the time- including vowel and consonant sounds
• Blows "raspberries" and spit bubbles

Ragnar:

• Size 1/2 diapers
• 0-3 M pants, 3-6 M sleepers, 3-6 & 6 M onesies
• Sucks on his hands & gnaws his knuckles during the day
• Tries to stand when being held –ALL OF THE TIME!
• Grabs toys and brings them to his mouth with accuracy
• Using his pacifier less- mostly at bedtime
• Talks all the time
• Rolls from tummy to back consistently and has rolled from back to tummy once
• Sleeps on his side
• Scoots around when placed on the floor

Both

• Talking to each other and adults a lot
• SUPER smiley & laugh a lot
• Love car rides & stroller rides
• Very cuddly
• Sleeping through the night more consistently
• Blow spit bubbles
• All naps are in their individual cribs during the day, and most days are coordinated with each other- still at 3-4 short naps a day
• Both focus on the pages of books when reading to them & reach out to touch them
• Scoot around crib by pushing with their heels
• Love music- they “sing” along
• Love nursery rhymes and finger plays
• Love splashing in the bathtub
• Smile at each other
• Make each other laugh
• Hold hands while nursing
• Fascinated by their toes/feet and hold their legs up to see them
• TEETHING- lots of drool and teeth visible under the gum line
• “Fought” over their first toy
