12 Month Baby Check-up

Today was a snow day! The pediatrician's office called last night to let us know they were having a late start and were cancelling our 8:30 AM appointment. They told us to call at 10 AM and they would schedule us for later. I called at 10 and was told there weren't any appointments available. After some discussion I got us scheduled for a noon appointment.

We drove there without any problems. The main road (which we are right off of) was wet and bare. Our neighborhood was compact snow and ice and slick, but luckily Nate navigated it without any problems. The pediatrician's office was packed! We parked then went to the waiting room. We had to wait and wait and wait. Finally, they took us back.

First, we weighed and measured Ragnar. Then we weighed and measured Magnus. Both of the boys had stranger anxiety with the nurse doing the measurements and freaked out a bit. We then had to wait and wait and wait for our Dr to come in. (They were super busy with all of the reschedules) She checked them both and they are doing beautifully. We asked a few questions and then got a prescription for fluoride drops (our neighborhood is in a small pocket in Sammamish that doesn't have fluoride in the water) and then waited for the nurse to come do the boys' immunization shots.

The shots were brutal. I knew they would be bad going in as two go in the arm (PAINFUL) and the MMR really stings. They got the chickenpox vaccine, Hep A and the MMR. This was the first time that both boys REALLY cried and were hard to console. Luckily, we were able to each hold and cuddle a baby and get them dressed to go home. They are now napping and hopefully will wake up without many side effects from the shots.

Dentist

Ragnar and Magnus had their first dentist appointment today.  It is amazing to me that we now need to take them to the dentist.  They are getting so big!  At the appointment they went over oral health and tips on how to brush their teeth.  Dr Thomas then did a quick exam and brushing followed by application of fluoride.  Magnus struggled a bit but didn't cry.  Ragnar held still but was crying towards the end.  We go back in 6 months for our next checkup.

1 Year Old

One year ago, our lives changed for the better forever!  Our precious, amazing, smart, funny, adorable, handsome, loving sons Ragnar and Magnus were born.  This past year has gone by so fast!  We’ve had so much fun watching our little babies grow and learn.  We are extremely blessed to be the parents of these fantastic boys.

Magnus
  • Size 3 diapers and size 4 overnight diapers
  • 6-12 M pants, 9-12 M onesies/shirts, 9 M sleepers
  • Vocal!  Babbles all day long and starting to use same “words” (babbles) to identify items/people
  • Crawls hands-and-knees everywhere!  VERY fast!
  • Dances when hears music
  • Walks while holding furniture, hands, push car
  • Loves riding his car and scooting all over the room
  • Can remove one block at a time from a stack of blocks vs. knocking the entire tower over
  • Claps hands, points at pictures in books
  • New Foods: cow’s milk, cake

Ragnar
  • Size 3 diapers and size 4 overnight diapers
  • 6-12 M pants, 9-12 M onesies/shirts, 9 M sleepers

  • Loves his car!  He loves to be pushed around but can also scoot by himself.
  • New Foods: cow’s milk, cake

Both

  • Recognize that when Harvey barks there is a car or truck in the neighborhood and they crawl to the window to see
  • Play with each other all sorts of games: chase, peek-a-boo, hide-n-seek, wrestling
  • Put items back into toy bin as well as dump them out

Christmas

Yay!  Christmas!  We were so excited to celebrate Magnus' and Ragnar's first Christmas.  Auntie spent the night and so she was with us when we all woke up.  I nursed the boys while Nate made us yummy egg nog waffles and bacon.  We ate breakfast and then the boys saw what Santa had left them.... cars!

Magnus figured out how to move forward as soon as we put him on his car.  Ragnar scooted backwards for a bit.  Then they played with their stocking stuffers (wooden cars) for about 2 seconds because they noticed the gate was down from around the tree and the presents were accessible.

They both crawled to the tree as fast as they could, so Auntie started handing out presents for them to unwrap.  I had anticipated that they would unwrap something and then either want to play with the wrapping paper/box or want to play with the toy they unwrapped.  I was very wrong.  They wanted to unwrap everything!  Once something was unwrapped, they would try to crawl and get something new to unwrap.  We unwrapped gifts for a bit and then it was naptime.

While the boys napped the adults opened their Christmas gifts and got dressed and ready to go to church.  Once naptime was over, Magnus and Ragnar opened the rest of their gifts.  They then played a bit before we went to church.

It was wonderful to be at church together, but as usually on Christmas, it was a PACKED chapel!  Luckily, I had 2 extra adults with me to help out.  Ragnar and Papa left the chapel after half an hour to walk around the halls and Magnus and Auntie followed shortly after.  I was left alone and after hearing shrieks from the hallways that sounded like my boys I decided to leave too.  It was a nice service (from what I saw) and I'm glad we were able to attend part of it.

After church we came home ate lunch and the boys then napped.  We kinnected with Gramsie and Grumpa and Aunt Katie and Uncle Spencer.  Then we spent a relaxing afternoon talking on the phone with relatives and playing with the boys.  We ate a snackie dinner and then the boys went to bed.

It was a wonderful first Christmas with Ragnar & Magnus.

Christmas Eve

We had a lovely Christmas Eve. We met Auntie at the Woodland Park Zoo. The boys wore their fuzzy bear buntings and rode in the hiking backpacks for the first time. It was a fun trip. Magnus was a bit grumpy at first.  Ragnar loved his vantage point. We didn't see many animals moving around much, but it was a nice trip. The boys perked up after lunch and enjoyed seeing the animals in the farm area, as these animals were active.

After the zoo we went home, and Nate made jambalaya for dinner. It was yummy! When dinner was finished, we lit our Swedish chimes and turned down the lights. Magnus and Ragnar were fascinated by the shadows the candles from the chimes were throwing on the ceiling.

Next, we all opened our "star" presents. Pajamas for everyone! After a fun splash-filled bath the boys ate their noms and heard Papa read them the Christmas story. We tucked the boys into bed to await Santa Claus. It was a lovely evening.
