I saw a great sandbox on another blog and thought it looked easy enough that Nate and I could tackle the project. We decided on building a sandbox over buying one because we wanted one that they could both play in at the same time and have friends/toys in with them too. We chose to have ours be a six-foot-by-six-foot square and ten inches deep. My main concern with sandboxes is keeping animals out of them when we aren't using them. This design had two doors that covered the box when not in use.
Nate took off a Friday from work, and we went to Home Depot to get all of the supplies. During the boys' nap that day he started building the frame and I prepared the ground.

Over the next few days Nate and I worked on the design a little at a time. He did an excellent job.

It took the weekend and then a couple of weeknights the following week, but then it was finished.
We added the sand. A LOT of sand. We started out with 30 fifty lb. bags of sand. But, due to my removal of the grass (and some dirt with it) there was more area to fill than we planned. Nate purchased 12 more bags of sand and that topped it off just right.

The boys really like the sandbox. We picked up some sand toys for them, and they are really enjoying it.
